Our Story
Once upon a time, two people swiped right...
...but even while getting ready, neither felt that this was just another Bumble date.
We met at a cute ice-cream shop on a Friday night in January. Oscar arrived 15 minutes early and waited in his car by the door, having already planned what he would say when he walked up to her. Sage was characteristically 5 minutes late, and also characteristically ruined his plan without even realizing it. We clicked immediately though, and even the most perfect first line could not have made that first date any better.
What we felt upon meeting was more than a spark, and the connection is something we still can't explain. We both felt it! At one point, Oscar went to the bathroom just to talk to himself in the mirror, because he realized this was it. While he was gone, Sage texted her roommate, "Wait this guy might be the real deal". The texts were long and rambling, but other snippets include "my cheeks hurt from smiling", "this is the most genuine and authentic thing I've ever experienced", and "if this becomes something real (or like he becomes my person), let the record show that I called it on the first date".
We talked and talked for hours on the first date. We found an excuse to see each other the next day, and talked for hours and hours again. The conversation has continued for months now, and we hope it will never end! It is truly remarkable that two people with such different backgrounds can have such compatible perspectives on life. We believe the differences in our families, religion, language, and culture have only helped us to be more intentional about the choices we make in our relationship, and will be a strength to our future family.
Mountains or beach?
We don't have an answer; both feel like home to us! We met in Sage's home state of Utah, and then travelled to meet Oscar's family in Mexico. We have hiked mountain trails to hot springs, and walked barefoot exploring tide pools.
In Utah, Oscar taught Sage to snowboard, and she brought him rock climbing for the first time. In Mexico, Oscar taught Sage to fish in the ocean, and they practiced yoga on the beach for the first time.
In Mexico, we stopped by the side of the road to try to photograph the gorgeous sunset over the ocean, and while driving through the night back to Utah, we stopped by the side of the road to try to photograph the millions of stars visible only in the desert. They were equally impossible moments to capture with a camera, but are ones that we keep in our hearts.
We love the connection we feel to ourselves and to nature when we are outdoors. It is where we each have had moments that make us feel alive. Moments when we feel so insignificant in the universe, and yet empowered to shape our own lives and make a difference in the world. Nature is where we have felt the most connected to our selves, our bodies, and our God. It truly is a sacred place with spiritual meaning for both of us, which is why it is so important to us that we get married in nature.
That's our story! We met in January, travelled to Mexico in April, and will be married this August. If you are reading this, it is because you have been part of our journey, either on the way that led us to each other, or since we have been traveling together. Thank you for your love and goodness to us. We are so excited to see what lies ahead!
